Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are “constantly at war” and have a decision to make over what they actually are, royal experts have said.
Reflecting on the pair’s six-year anniversary, Heirs & Spares host and royal commentator Kinsey Schofield said she did think the milestone was a “big deal, adding that the Sussexes “really created this ‘us against the world’ relationship.
“There’s no doubt that they’ve struggled throughout the last six years.
“And we saw, even in the Netflix documentary, the constant strain it felt like these two were under, whether they’re suing this person or that person, there were a lot of really sad, dark moments throughout that docuseries.
Speaking to fellow royal watcher Rupert Bell, Schofield asked: “When do they come up for a breath of fresh air? Because it does feel like they’re constantly at war with someone.
Royal watcher Rupert Bell says the couple want to have complete ‘control of the narrative’.
Bell insisted the Sussexes need to ‘put the stuff that’s gone on behind them and move on.’
“Is that stress on the relationship or does that continue to strengthen the relationship?”
Bell insisted the Sussexes need to “put the stuff that’s gone on behind them and move on”. He continued that there “has to be a line where they stop being negative” about their previous life since stepping down as senior royals in January 2020.
“They’ve actually got to now say, what are we?” Bell argued, “We are not a member of the Royal Family, we are a commercial entity.
“Let’s be quite clear, that’s what they are. Now, it may have a philanthropic bent to it, in that they will be doing some good things through their foundations, but they are a commercially-based couple now.”
Bell said the pair are now a ‘commercial entity.’
But he said the pair “still go round as ‘the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’, so what do they want to be? And I think that’s what frustrates people.”
The royal watcher said the couple “want to control the narrative” around their relationship “within an inch of their lives,” which he said they had done in their recent trip to Nigeria and elsewhere.
“And that’s the point of them,” he added. “They want to feel that they’re in total control, and that was the ultimate reason why they wanted to leave the royal family.
“Because they didn’t have the control, and it wasn’t going to be their show.”
But Harry could still be set to receive a major Palace invite this summer – despite the ongoing royal feud.
Traditionally each August, the Royal Family enjoy getting together at Balmoral as they take a break away from royal commitments and duties.
The late Queen Elizabeth II is known to have enjoyed this cherished time with her loved ones, something that is enjoyed equally now by King Charles III.
Speaking to the Mirror, royal expert Ingrid Seward said that she believes there is “no doubt” that this invite will also be extended to Harry, Meghan and their two children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, who will celebrate her third birthday next month.
She told the publication: “Harry and Meghan’s security fears could well be a stumbling block to any kind of reunion with the royal family. But no doubt they have been invited to Balmoral this summer.”
