Where in the world is Craig Melvin?
Fans who tuned in to the February 20 episode of TODAY were greeted by the smiling faces of Savannah Guthrie and, somewhat surprisingly, Willie Geist, who was stepping in for an absent Melvin (and who’s been subbing for him all week, in fact).
Thankfully, there’s a simple answer for his absence: Melvin has been enjoying a vacation with his family — and he’s having the time of his life! In an eye-opening February 19 Instagram post, Melvin’s wife, Lindsay, shared that along with their kids Delano and Sybil, the family has hit the slopes.
“Out of office ❄️#ski #family #snow,” she said in a caption.
Many of our favorite TODAY stars are enjoying some much-needed time off this month, but unlike Hoda Kotb and Guthrie herself, Melvin isn’t running away from the frigid winter temperatures — he’s embracing them.
Until then, TODAY is in good hands with Guthrie and Geist.
(In the meantime, let’s hope the latter can avoid getting his neck tattooed.)
Craig Melvin was once interviewed by his son, Delano
While the Melvin family certainly has plenty of skiing skills, we can’t help but recall how little Delano is already following in his parents’ footsteps (Lindsay is also a broadcast journalist).
Back in May 2024, Delano stepped up and interviewed his dad for a TODAY segment. Father and son chatted about Melvin’s new book on fatherhood, I’m Proud of You.
In true 10-year-old fashion, Delano wasted no time asking the tough questions, asking what made his father write the book in the first place. Melvin responded that both of his kids inspired him.

“I wanted to write a book that celebrated fatherhood, that celebrated you, celebrated your sister, that celebrated being a parent,” Melvin explained. “I wanted to write something that you would enjoy, that you would be proud of. But I also wrote it because I wanted you to know-”
“That you’re proud of me?” Delano interjected.
“Yeah, that I’m proud of you,” Melvin said through a smile. “But not just proud of the big stuff, I’m proud of the little stuff, too. I remember when you tied your shoes the first time. I remember when you made your first basket. I wanted to write something that celebrated the small things.”
