Fans online had some very cruel things to say after finding out former superstar running back OJ Simpson passed away.

Simpson, who was accused of killing his ex-wife and her friend in 1994, lost a lengthy battle with cancer on Wednesday, according to his family.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace,” a statement reads.

Simpson was 76.

The former NFL star revealed his cancer diagnosis last May, posting a video to Twitter/X in which he claimed to have “caught cancer” and “had to do the whole chemo thing.” He added that it looked like he beat it, though he didn’t specify the nature of the cancer.

A Las Vegas TV station reported this February that Simpson was again undergoing treatment for an unspecified cancer. He denied rumors claiming he was in hospice care but didn’t confirm or deny the reports of him being ill.

“My health is good. I mean, obviously I’m dealing with some issues but I think I’m just about over it,” he said.

Social Media Was Unkind To OJ Simpson After News Of His Passing

With news of his passing dropping on Thursday morning, fans on social media were hardly respectful as most people still seem to believe he did, in fact, commit the crime he was acquitted of nearly 30 years ago.

OJ Simpson enjoyed a celebrity lifestyle after his football career, working as a sportscaster and taking up acting roles.

However, things took a shocking turn after his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, were stabbed to death outside of her home in Los Angeles.

Simpson was eventually arrested after leading police on a 60-mile chase but was acquitted 11 months later.
