A brief moment in the teaser has sent speculations into overdrive with regards to X-Men and the MCU.

Secret Wars: X-Men '97 Might Have Teased Chris Evans’ Captain America Returning That Deadpool 3 Trailer Has Already Hinted

X-Men ’97 has gained quite the momentum in the fandom with its latest episode, which points towards the story that the show is trying to adapt. With the insectoid Sentinel that wreaks havoc on Genosha causing the death of multiple prominent mutants, Marvel released a teaser for what the rest of the season holds.

Fans have been speculating the main antagonist who has been manipulating events is indeed Cassandra Nova, the character who is also set to be the antagonist of Deadpool & Wolverine in the MCU. However, there is another potential MCU cameo in the show that has been teased by the show’s latest teaser trailer, one with much bigger implications for the Marvel multiverse at large.

Captain America could be making his return to the MCU

In the teaser, an icy landscape reveals a shield falling from the sky, with the frame’s edges closing in on yellow boots. The shield is clearly that of Captain America, and the icy landscape is very much reminiscent of the icy terrain that we see in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. This could indicate that the Casandra Nova in both these cases is going to be a multiversal threat, something Deadpool is going to try to solve with Wolverine and potentially other characters throughout the multiverse.

This could allow Chris Evans, via X-Men ’97, to make an appearance in the MCU again, directly leading into the events of Secret Wars or Deadpool & Wolverine. This could allow Mr. Sinister to enter the MCU as well, who has featured heavily in the season so far and is rumored to be the chief antagonist of the Mutants’ maiden phase in the MCU.

X-Men ’97‘s latest episode has taken the internet by storm, and if the writers of the show have to be believed, it seems that we are just warming up. Multiple multiple high-profile casualties that came out of nowhere, X-Men might be setting the stage for an all-out mutant war, one that is creating much anticipation among audiences, who are eagerly waiting for the next episode of the show to drop.

There has been speculation that the show will be directly tying in with Deadpool & Wolverine, thanks to the trend that has existed in the MCU. All the characters that are mutants who have made an appearance in the MCU ten to be a fusion of their X-Men: The Animated Series and Fox Studios’ X-Men versions. Audiences have seen this with Kelsey Grammer‘s Beast (who appeared in The Marvels) and Sir Patrick Stewart‘s Charles Xavier (who made his appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).
