Today show viewers have noticed a familiar face missing from their screens in recent weeks—Sheinelle Jones.

The beloved co-host recently announced that she is stepping away from the show to handle a personal matter,
and her colleague Savannah Guthrie has been among those publicly offering support.
Sheinelle Jones Addresses Her Absence

On Wednesday, January 15, Sheinelle, 46, took to Instagram to explain why she had been absent from Today.

In her heartfelt post, she revealed that she was dealing with a “family health matter” that required her attention.

While she didn’t disclose specific details, her message reassured fans that she was grateful for their concern and support.
In response, her Today co-hosts wasted no time in showing their love, with Savannah Guthrie, 53, leading the way. In the comments of Sheinelle’s post, Savannah wrote, “We love you so. Not the same without you. We will see you soon.”
Savannah also took a moment during Today’s Wednesday morning broadcast to acknowledge Sheinelle’s absence while sitting alongside Craig Melvin. She addressed the viewers who had been wondering where Sheinelle was and sent a message of encouragement to her friend.
“We know so many of you have been asking about Sheinelle and missing her, and we miss her, too,” Savannah said.

Fans Express Their Love and Support
Beyond the support from her co-hosts, Sheinelle received an outpouring of love from fans who were relieved to hear from her but saddened by the reason for her absence. Many took to her Instagram comments to offer their prayers, well-wishes, and words of encouragement.
One fan wrote, “We love and miss you. You’re a bright, shiny part of the Today show. I send you prayers and hugs to give you strength as you deal with personal matters, but please know that you are truly missed.”
Another added, “Your absence is noticed and you are missed. Hoping the extra love and prayers from your fans help guide your family through this time. Everyone is thinking of you.”

A third person shared, “You have been missed, and we, your fans, have been worried. You are right where you’re supposed to be. I pray for you and your family during this challenging time. Thank you for taking a moment to update us.”
The overwhelming response reflects just how much Sheinelle means to Today’s loyal viewers, who have come to love her warmth, professionalism, and charisma over the years.
Sheinelle’s Last Instagram Post Before Her Break
Before revealing the reason for her absence, Sheinelle had not posted on Instagram since December 16. Her last update was a special moment captured with her eldest son, Kayin, at the White House holiday press party on December 15.

She shared a heartfelt reflection on her time at the event, where she and Kayin met President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. In her caption, Sheinelle recalled a touching exchange between the president and her son.
“This moment with my oldest son Kayin and @POTUS and @DrBiden transcended politics. I got emotional as the president kindly complimented his attire and then said these words to him with the most sincere eyes – ‘Son, I want to tell you the most important thing. Remember I told you this: always, take care of your mother.’”
She continued, “Kayin replied, ‘I will. Yes sir.’ – It felt like Biden stopped the clock for a second … so we could take it in. I got a little teary when we left that beautifully decorated room. It was a night we’ll always hold dear.”

Sheinelle’s Journey on Today
A longtime member of the Today team, Sheinelle joined NBC News in 2014 as a co-host of Weekend Today before transitioning to Today’s Third Hour in 2019. Over the years, she has built a strong connection with her audience, thanks to her warmth, professionalism, and engaging storytelling.
While she steps away to focus on her family, Today correspondent Jill Martin has been filling in for her on the show. Fans remain hopeful that Sheinelle will return soon, but above all, they understand that family comes first.
Waiting for Sheinelle’s Return

Though there is no official timeline for her return, the overwhelming support from Savannah Guthrie, the Today team, and fans alike proves just how much Sheinelle Jones is valued both on and off the air. Until then, viewers continue to send their best wishes, hoping she takes all the time she needs to be with her loved ones.
