Sam Raimi’s desire to possibly direct Avengers: Secret Wars is being heavily challenged by Marvel fans.

Long before the MCU came into play, director Sam Raimi gave us a glimpse into one of Marvel’s most popular and celebrated superheroes with the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire. Two decades later, he helmed Doctor Strange in the Mutliverse of Madness and joined an elite group of filmmakers who have directed an MCU film.

With the franchise now developing an array of films leading up to the highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, fans are eagerly awaiting news about who will direct this marquee project. Raimi for his part, has expressed interest in being part of the MCU again. But Marvel buffs who are seriously challenging his knowledge about the franchise are certain that he cannot do justice to the film.

Sam Raimi Is Keen To Direct Avengers: Secret Wars

Following his very successful Spider-Man trilogy, Sam Raimi entered the MCU by helming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022. While the film divided audiences and critics, Raimi’s directorial touches struck a chord with a lot of fans across the world.

With a lot of narratives still to be developed by Marvel in the future, all roads are now leading to the hyped Avengers: Secret Wars which is touted to bring many story arcs a full circle. While a lot of information regarding the film is yet to be revealed, a major talking point has been the question of who will direct the movie.

Raimi’s name is one that has been floating around as a probable choice to direct the 2027 MCU film. The Darkman director has also openly shown interest to be part of another Marvel project. In an interview that appeared in Screen Geek, the filmmaker said during an appearance in WonderCon,

“I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books. I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.”

There is no denying the fact that Raimi’s sensibilities have appealed to a wide cross-section of fans across the world. Having also had prior experience with an MCU film, the possibility that he could be offered the gig cannot be discounted.

Avengers: Secret Wars hasn’t even gone into production yet. But it is gaining extraordinary hype with fans excitedly speculating on the nature of the narrative, the iconic superheroes who could feature in it, and who will helm this marquee film.

While Sam Raimi has shown keen interest and clearly staked his claim to helm another MCU project, many fans are skeptical about the Spider-Man director’s involvement despite his success in creating a deadly version of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange 2.

Netizens are now pointing out why Raimi isn’t fit to helm Avengers 6. One major concern was the level of expertise and knowledge he possessed when it came to the various characters in the MCU, which was absolutely necessary for anyone stepping in to direct future films in the franchise.

These comments were specifically targeted at him following his revelation that he had not seen WandaVision before directing Doctor Strange 2.  Some fans believed that the Russo Brothers would be a far better choice in this regard.

Say what you want about the Russos, but they handled every single character in their Avengers movies with a ton of care.

Part of why he didn’t watch Wanda vision is it wasn’t all out yet when they were filming his movie!

I liked Multiverse of Madness but there’s no denying he took Wanda’s character a step back and not watching WandaVision before was a major mistake.

Despite a lot of negativity that Raimi has received regarding his desire to direct the 6th Avengers film, there are many fans who are still loyal supporters of his craft and believe that he would be the ideal choice to helm the movie. The ball is now well and truly in Kevin Feige’s court.
