Some interesting details have emerged regarding the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offseason plans at quarterback.

Pittsburgh used three different quarterbacks (Mason Rudolph, Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett) last season and finished 10-7. Though head coach Mike Tomlin previously stated that the Steelers will be bringing in some QB competition, a new report indicates that the club won’t be making a big splash there.

 

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, there might be “internal division” within the organization regarding who the starter should be between Rudolph and Pickett.

On top of that, Dulac reports that the Steelers aren’t keen on adding a signal-caller “who wants to be a starter”, meaning they won’t be looking to add a big-named QB via the trade or free agent markets:
“In fact, there appears to be some internal division that maybe Mason Rudolph should be the starter after the way he finished the 2023 season, winning the final three regular season games to gain entry to the playoffs…

In any event, the Steelers are not interested in bringing in a quarterback who wants to be a starter. That would include Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins, and probably even Russell Wilson, who has a connection with the Steelers. They are committed to giving Pickett a third season to see if he is the guy to do more than just win a playoff game — something they haven’t done in a franchise-record seven years.”

Pittsburgh released Trubisky last week, and Rudolph himself is a pending free agent. With only Pickett currently under contract, it’ll be interesting to see how GM Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin address the rest of the QB room.
