Houston Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs reportedly paid a pretty penny to secure the No. 1 with his new team.
Stefon Diggs wore the No. 14 throughout his first nine NFL seasons, spent with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills. But the four-time Pro Bowler is going to don a single-digit jersey number with his new team.
According to a report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston, Diggs paid Texans safety Jimmie Ward about $100,000 for the jersey No. 1. As for Ward, he’ll go back to the No. 20 that he previously wore with the San Francisco 49ers.
On Wednesday, the Texans acquired the 30-year-old wideout and two late-round picks (2024 sixth and 2025 fifth-rounders) from the Bills in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. Houston then restructured Diggs’ contract, making him a free agent after next season.

Stefon Diggs was widely mentioned in trade rumors throughout the past year as his relationship with the organization quickly began to sour. After another disappointing postseason outing, it was obvious that Diggs and the Bills needed to part ways.

So the 30-year-old will now get a chance to compete for a Super Bowl with an up-and-coming Houston team that won 10 games a year ago. He’ll form a dynamic wide receiver trio with young stars Nico Collins and Tank Dell, who combined for 15 receiving TDs last year.
Stefon Diggs Could Be The Final Piece For Houston
There’s no telling how much further Houston could have gone in the postseason in 2023 if they didn’t lose Dell for the year with an injury. Quarterback CJ Stroud still got them to the Divisional Round with Collins as his only elite receiver, but now he has three Pro Bowl-caliber weapons to throw to.
The Texans took a major step forward in year one with Stroud and DeMeco Ryans. With Diggs joining the offense, the Texans are well-positioned to assert themselves as a bonafide Super Bowl contender in 2024.
