One of the New Orleans Saints’ top players is apparently a name to watch in the offseason trade market.

Despite a 9-8 finish, the Saints missed the postseason for the third straight year, having lost out on the NFC South via tiebreaker to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So far, the Saints have made just one notable offseason move, with Klint Kubiak replacing Pete Carmichael as offensive coordinator.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore is a name to follow on the trade market. The insider wrote to not “be surprised if” New Orleans receives offers for the 2017 first-round pick:
“New Orleans must decide by the third day of the league year whether to keep Michael Thomas, whose contract triggers future hefty roster bonuses after that date. And don’t be surprised if the Saints get trade calls on corner Marshon Lattimore, whose deal was restructured to a very manageable $1.2 million salary in 2024.”
In Sept. 2021, Lattimore and the Saints agreed to a lucrative five-year contract extension worth $97.6 million. Unfortunately, injuries have limited Lattimore to 17 total games over the last two seasons.

But when healthy, Lattimore is one of the game’s premier ball-hawking and shutdown corners. He has 15 career interceptions, 86 pass defenses and five forced fumbles, leading New Orleans to playoff appearances in each of his first four seasons.

The Saints are a better team with the four-time Pro Bowler on the field, but they’re also in a miserable cap situation and have one of football’s oldest rosters. So if GM Mickey Loomis ends up getting a quality offer, it certainly would make sense to trade Lattimore and clear up much-needed cap space.
