The Kansas City Chiefs have made an intriguing quarterback move after their Super Bowl 59 loss, retaining third-stringer Chris Oladokun.
Per a report from Ed Easton Jr. of Chiefs Wire, the Chiefs have re-signed Chris Oladokun to a Reserves/Futures contract for the upcoming 2025 campaign. Oladokun has been with the Chiefs since 2022, winning Super Bowl 57 and 58 rings as a backup to Patrick Mahomes.
The 27-year-old played college football at South Florida, Samford and South Dakota State before getting drafted in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022. Oladokun was let go ahead of final roster cuts and was subsequently picked up by the Chiefs.
Chris Oladokun saw his first official NFL action in the Chiefs’ meaningless Week 18 road game against the Denver Broncos. Oladokun rushed once for five yards in a 38-0 loss, as KC rested its key starters with the AFC’s top seed and first-round bye locked up.
The Chiefs’ second-stringer is former Philadelphia Eagles star Carson Wentz, though the No. 2 pick of 2016 is a pending free agent. Wentz started the Week 18 game against Denver with Mahomes getting the week off.
Chad Henne and Shane Buechele were Mahomes’ backups during the 2022 season when Chris Oladokun won his first ring. Following Henne’s retirement, journeyman Blaine Gabbert took over as Mahomes’ understudy in 2023 as KC went on to successfully defend its championship.
Chiefs Still Dealing With Aftershock Of Super Bowl 59 Loss To Eagles

With the 2025 new league year around the corner, the Chiefs are still left pondering what went wrong in their Super Bowl 59 loss to the Eagles. Instead of completing the first three-peat, Kansas City was crushed 40-22 by the underdog Philadelphia Eagles in a game that was never really close.
Travis Kelce will soon make a decision on his playing future. Justin Reid, Nick Bolton, Marquise Brown, Kareem Hunt, JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeAndre Hopkins and Mecole Hardman headline the list of pending free agents, and most of them are bound to leave.
