Former USC star quarterback Caleb Williams has made an interesting decision ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The former Heisman is reportedly set to mimic Lamar Jackson in a certain regard as ESPN Bengals insider Ben Baby has made claims of Williams not having an agent down on the NFLPA’s list of draft-eligible players, suggesting he has not hired a representative and might not do so for the foreseeable future.

It’s rare for an NFL star to play without representation from an agency but Jackson was able to negotiate a then-record $260 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens last year, getting $180 million of that guaranteed.

While an agent isn’t absolutely necessary, not having one can slow the process of getting a contract down considerably. Such was the case with Jackson ahead of his MVP season. Agents also serve in PR roles and can help fend off any negative press that could impact a player’s contractual situation.

On the flip side, agents take a huge cut of a player’s contract, so Williams could be trying to keep as much money from his first contract for himself.
