Prince Harry appears to have cut ties with the UK after listing the USA as his permanent residence on official documents – and one royal expert believes there’s one thing he could do to boost popularity in the new country he is calling home

Prince Harry would impress the US people with a public reunion with his royal relatives – but King Charles would be ‘unlikely’ to agree to it, according to an expert.

The Duke of Sussex has a fractious relationship with his family, especially with his father and brother Prince William since he quit royal life to live in America with wife Meghan and their now two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He has been settled there for four years and this week, for the first time, he has listed the United States as his primary residence on an official document.

It emerged that Harry has changed his country of residence from the UK to the US by filing a notice with Companies House related to his eco-tourism not-for-profit organisation Travalyst, which he founded. And according to royal expert and author Ingrid Seward, it may be a small detail but it is highly significant.

She told the Mirror: “Harry has finally decided to cut his remaining ties with his homeland. When he was asked to list his permanent residence for his Travalyst company on official documents at Companies House, he wrote US.

“A small but significant thing. Harry no longer has a place he can call home in the land of his birth. Frogmore Cottage was returned to the Royal estates and as far as we know Harry owns no other properties. Even the cottage on the Balmoral estate, he once shared with William in happier times is unavailable and his bedroom at Clarence House is now a dressing room for the Queen.

“It appears he has erased himself from his old life and in a way he has. His future is in America and that is clearly what he wants. He now needs to have a successful Stateside enterprise that does not involve dissing his paternal family.”

And Ingrid added that there is one way Harry could endear himself to his new homeland – but it might be difficult. She explained: “It is important for Harry to gain the respect of the people in the land he has chosen to call his home.

“A reunion with his brother would boost his popularity immensely. Another obvious improvement would be to see him smiling and happy with his stepmother Queen Camilla, whom he was so unkind about in his autobiography Spare. Any public appearance with the King would impress the American public, but Charles is unlikely to agree to a publicity pose just to help his son, however much he loves him. As for William, I sincerely doubt he is ready to re-embrace his brother.

“Even if William had wanted to, there has not yet been the opportunity. Catherine’s ill health may have brought them closer, but we won’t know anything until such time as we see them genuinely together. Harry has chosen his future without his family. Without his old friends and it appears to be without his old home. I hope he has made the right decision.”
