Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s next steps in their rebrand and departure from the UK have been seemingly unveiled as they are set to affirm their Californian life.

During the week, it was revealed that the Duke of Sussex had changed his primary residence from the United Kingdom to the United States, with the change backdated to June 29, 2023 – the same day Buckingham Palace confirmed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had vacated their former residence in England, Frogmore Cottage, with them handing back the keys at the request of the King.

In March 2023 following the Duke of Sussex’s memoir Spare hitting bookshelves, it was revealed that King Charles had asked his son and his wife Meghan Markle to vacate Frogmore Cottage. And now, with Harry’s residence officially changed from the UK to the US, it’s “finally time for the UK to bid a (not entirely) fond farewell to Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex”, according to an expert.

The Independent’s Associate Editor, Sean O’Grady has said that Harry’s latest move of altering his country of residence is a “snub” to his father, mother-in-law, brother and sister-in-law, with it also being “a further sign that he’s gone to California for good”.

Mr O’Grady said: “It is a bit painful to reflect on all the goodwill for the future heaped on Harry and Meghan when they got married, only six years ago next month. Whoever is to blame for the collapse in their relationship with Britain since, the country lost something quite special when the Sussexes decamped to North America.

“Nor does the process feel complete; it’s not long since he officially changed his surname, and that of his family, from Mountbatten-Windsor to plain Sussex.”

He then revealed the next step for the couple, saying: “The next logical step for the couple is to become Mr and Mrs Sussex. Then it will be how long before the Duke of Sussex seeks US citizenship, complete with passport?”
