Spider-Man: No Way Home has undeniably emerged as one of Marvel’s most exceptional cinematic achievements, a feat understandable given its grand scope. The film effectively concludes years of Spider-Man narratives, providing a fitting farewell to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s portrayals of the character.

Interestingly, a particular scene that marked Andrew Garfield’s emotional redemption alongside Zendaya’s MJ played a pivotal role in convincing him to make his return. Among the trio of live-action Peter Parkers, Andrew Garfield’s rendition faced the least conclusive resolution in his Spider-Man films. This was primarily due to the fact that the actor never had the opportunity to complete The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy.

Andrew Garfield Did Not Receive A Proper Closure

Following a subpar performance of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Marvel made the strategic decision to re-cast the titular hero for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hence, the opportunity never arose for Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker to come to terms with the demise of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) as depicted in the conclusion of the second movie. The tragic inability to rescue her was poignant, yet even more disheartening was the fact that viewers were deprived of witnessing his progression beyond this pivotal event.

The prospect of finding redemption in Spider-Man: No Way Home was the driving force that convinced Garfield to take up his role once again. Evidently, the quest for closure wasn’t exclusive to the fans; Garfield also saw the significance in it.

Andrew Garfield’s involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home appears to have been a rewarding journey, prompting speculation among fans about his potential return as Peter Parker. Enthusiasts are advocating for Sony to give the green light to The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Furthermore, suggestions for his appearance within the MCU or a showdown against Tom Hardy’s Venom have gained momentum.

How Zendaya Convinced Andrew Garfield

With Andrew Garfield’s participation in Spider-Man: No Way Home now public knowledge, the actor is openly discussing his significant return and the process that led to its realization. During a conversation with Variety, he confessed that his poignant scene with MJ (Zendaya) played a crucial role in solidifying his decision. This moment granted him the chance to address the Gwen Stacy incident from his own films, crafting a parallel that resonated authentically.

“Oh my god, I don’t even know where to start with that. It’s too big. Gwen had agency. In our film, on her final day, she shows up. I tried to restrain her from showing up to that scene with Electro [Jamie Foxx]. I knew that it was too dangerous, but she chose to be there. She had a hand in her own destiny in that way, and the movie is about fate. I will say the image of my catching [Zendaya’s] MJ — that was really beautiful and it kind of sold me on the whole thing.”
Garfield further expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to grant his Peter Parker a fitting closure. However, the question remains: Could Spider-Man: No Way Home truly mark the ultimate instance he dons the iconic suit?
