The San Francisco 49ers bemoaned their poor luck on Sunday night as they lost Super Bowl 58 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Two incidents swung the game in the Chiefs’ favor, with a botched punt return and missed conversion coming back to bite them. However, lots of fans think there was something more at play and have suggested that Colin Kaepernick cursed the team.

The former quarterback led the Niners to a Super Bowl in 2012 but found himself out of the NFL by 2016 after protesting against racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem ahead of games.

San Francisco has made it back to the Super Bowl twice since then but lost both contests to the same opponents.

It’s why the “Colin Kaepernick curse” has been trending on social media since.

“The Colin Kaepernick curse is real…49ers won’t ever win again for what they did to him,” one fan wrote.

“I like the idea of a Kaepernick curse,” another added.

We’re not sure how the Niners would be able to fix things with Kaepernick in 2024. But he still has hope of returning to the NFL one day; maybe they could make it happen.
