The Dallas Cowboys’ stance on Dak Prescott has been revealed amid conflicting reports on the quarterback’s future.
However, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, the team remains committed to signing him to a long-term contract.
Anderson has reported that, while there is no offer on the table, the Cowboys are not looking forward to a scenario in which the QB leaves in free agency.
“While there’s currently no offer or imminent talks, the team is not presently charting a path to let Prescott go to free agency, despite some chatter to the contrary, I’m told,” she tweeted.
There was talk of the Cowboys allowing Dak Prescott to leave in free agency in 2025, and understandably so given owner Jerry Jones saying the team “has our contract, locked and loaded for this year.“
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on this, with his verbiage suggesting that the signal-caller would likely be permitted to test free agency.
The Cowboys put out a response via team reporter Nick Harris hours later.
“Per the team, Dak Prescott and the Cowboys have had extension discussions but it is ‘not a pressurized situation for either at this point’. The door remains open for a deal to get done this offseason or during the 2024 season, but there is no urgency as of now.”
Prescott has a cap hit of over $55 million for this year.
Jerry Jones Addresses Dak Prescott Allegations
Jerry Jones has also recently addressed the disturbing allegations surrounding Dak Prescott. The QB has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a Dallas strip club parking lot in 2017 and has since sued for extortion.
Jones responded to a question on the matter at the owners’ meeting in Orlando, Florida.
“We are very knowledgeable of it,” Jones said, per the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken. “Of anybody, I can say you work through the legal aspects of it. So, very aware of it. Not uncomfortable with it in any way. Hate it that the issue has to have any negative aspect to it all for everybody concerned. I can say that we’re just very aware of the details and very comfortable.”
Jones is facing a sexual assault lawsuit himself, while a 27-year-old woman has claimed that he is her biological father and is taking him to task.
