EXCLUSIVE: Netflix recommissioned Meghan Markle’s home cooking show With Love, Meghan last week – but the streaming giant regrets its big spend.
Netflix bosses are regretting their £85m deal with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry following the backlash against the Duchess of Sussex’s new show, an insider has revealed. The mum-of-two’s home cooking and entertainment show With Love, Meghan premiered on Netflix last week (March 4), giving fans an insight into her life away from the cameras.
In the eight-part series, the 43-year-old shares some of her personal tips and tricks for hosting and adding more fun and thoughtfulness to the everyday. But it’s fair to say the series didn’t go down well with fans on either side of the pond. Since its launch, the royal has been hit with a wave of backlash, including from her father Thomas Markle. Now, a source has exclusively told Express.co.uk that Netflix bosses are regretting their decision to invest in the former TV star, despite announcing that the show has been recommissioned for a second series.

It’s been savaged by critics the world over, sure there have been a few lukewarm reviews of the series, but in general it’s been poorly received.
“Meghan and the Netflix PR machine tried to gloss over the failure by having the Duchess post on social media that the show had broken into the top ten rankings, but it just as quickly dropped out again. Even the SAG Awards, which aired in February, is still in the Top 10 Global list and has been pretty consistently while Meghan’s show is nowhere to be seen”.
The insider went on to reveal the staggering cheque to royal couple received for the show – which they claim hasn’t paid off. They continued: “The big issue Netflix has is that they paid way too much money to Harry and Meghan for content and they haven’t got their money’s worth yet.
“The royal duo was paid over $110million (£85.2million) and so far, they’ve produced three seasons of shows that all ran for only one season, with 18 episodes in total. That works out at roughly $6million (£4.6million) per episode.

“You would expect to spend $6million (£4.6million) per series, but per show is horrendously over budget. Netflix are going to have to either keep churning out content with them or cut their losses and run.” It comes after Meghan announced the renewal of her TV show on Instagram just days after its launch.
Taking to her Instagram Story last Friday (March 7), she shared a snap of herself wearing a cap which read “lettuce romaine calm” on the front and “With Love, Meghan” on the back. She captioned the post: “Lettuce romaine calm… or not (!) because I’m thrilled to share that Season 2 of ‘With Love, Meghan’ is coming!”
The Duchess followed it up with an official post on her which shared a compilation of clips from her first series. Meghan penned: “Oh, how I love ASMR! If you’re loving Season 1, just wait until you see the fun we cooked up on Season 2! Thanks for joining the party, and an endless thanks to the amazing team and crew who helped bring it all to life! @netflix.”
