The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a lot of rough times over the past few years, but with the upcoming new Avengers installments, fans hope these films will save the franchise. However, a new rumor claimed that resident Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo won’t be attached to Avengers 5.

Avengers: Infinity War
Now, this might come as a shock and even concern for many fans as many hope they would return to make another blockbuster hit the way they did with Infinity War and Endgame.
The Russo Brothers Are Reportedly Not Attached To Avengers 5
During a recent episode of THE HOT MIC, insider Jeff Sneider dropped a major bombshell revelation regarding Avengers 5. As he shared that production will commence in 2025, he also said that it will be helmed by someone who has never handled a Marvel film.
“They said that Avengers is going to start shooting early next year and that it will likely be someone who has not directed a Marvel movie before. Avengers could be bringing somebody in brand new to start next year.”
If the source’s report rings true, then it confirms that Joe and Anthony Russo are out of the franchise. Daniel RPK also reported the same schedule for the movie’s start of filming. He also mentioned that it will keep its release date.
Kevin Feige via Flicks and the City Clips
In an interview with Kevin Feige at the SDCC last 2022 via Deadline, he confirmed that the Russo brothers are not attached to both Avengers 5 and 6.
“They’re not connected to it. They’ve been very direct about that. We love them, they love us. We want to find something to do together, it’s not this.”
Now, this might be the proof fans need to know that MCU is now looking for a new director to helm The Kang Dynasty, which could be a disappointment to some and a worry to many. After all the tragic box office results in the past couple of years, the last thing the franchise needs is another flop.

The Russo Brothers Hinted At The Possibility of Directing Secret Wars

There’s still hope though as the Russo brothers previously talked about Secret Wars being their dream project. Despite Feige’s statement, Joe Russo said via Deadline:
“Our love for Marvel is based on the books that we read as kids, the books that we fell in love with. The one series that we adored growing up was Secret Wars. It’s incredibly ambitious. It would be bigger than Infinity War and Endgame. But it’s a massive undertaking. Those two movies were very hard to make. So trying to imagine making another two movies even bigger than those two? We’re going to have to sleep on that.”
It remains to be confirmed whether the MCU is really looking for a brand-new filmmaker with no experience in creating Marvel films or if they will end up bringing in a familiar face. As with any rumor, fans should take this one with a grain of salt.
Avengers films are available to stream via Disney+.
