Meghan Markle made quite a statement when she attended the polo with her husband Prince Harry last week – and according to a royal expert, there was a message for the royals

Meghan Markle delivered a message to the Royal Family when she stepped out with her husband last week, an expert has claimed.

Meghan and Harry were the picture of happiness as they attended the Royal Salute Polo Challenge to benefit the Prince’s charity, Sentebale on Friday. The Duchess looked incredibly chic in an ivory dress that featured a peekaboo cutout. Some fans suspect her choice was a subtle shoutout to her red-headed royal husband.

And according to Tessa Dunlop, the outfit spoke volumes. Speaking about the Sussexes’ appearance, the British historian and writer told The Mirror: “The choreography was exquisite and we all know why. Meghan was in charge.

“Sparkling in a white halter neck (a clever spin on one-time ropes of royal pearls), the Duchess was unafraid to take matters in hand, commandeering the Sentebale Polo Cup photo-ops with a deft flick of the wrist. Here is a woman comfortable both in front and behind the camera.

She further noted that the couple “dazzle in untouchable designer whites, parading their exquisite pedigree Stateside”. The expert added: “Who else could so seamlessly pivot from a panel on Africa to the polo-pitch in 24 hours? Thanks to Netflix, the Sussexes have squared the circle of raising money and making money all at the same time. Like it or not, Prince Haz has still got it. And if Meghan has anything to do with it, this is just the beginning.”

Female members of the Royal Family have been known to wear white for significant occasions – including at King Charles’s Coronation in May 2023. And according to Tatler, they will also choose white when dressing for success.

Meghan has worn all-white outfits on a number of important outings, including the sleeveless dress she wore when presenting newborn son Archie to the world, the white coat she wore to her engagement announcement, and the £2,220 white Givenchy dress she wore for her one and only official engagement with the late Queen.

Meghan previously claimed that she toned down her wardrobe, opting for neutral shades over colour when she was a working royal, so she wouldn’t ‘stand out’.

Speaking on the couple’s Netflix series, she said: “Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour. There was thought in that. To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same color as Her Majesty [Queen Elizabeth] if there’s a group event. But then you also should never be wearing the same colour as one of the other more senior members of the family,” she continued, alluding to her sister-in-law, Princess Kate, and Queen Camilla. “So I was like, ‘Well what’s a colour that they’ll probably never wear?’ Camel? Beige? White?”

As photos of Meghan in muted tones flashed before the screen, she went on to add “it also was so I could just blend in. Like I’m not trying to stand out here. So there’s no version of me joining this family and trying to not do everything I could to fit in. I don’t want to embarrass the family.”
