Former NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson has revealed there were times before games when he did something that could have gotten suspended.

Johnson, a Detroit Lions icon, admitted this week that he used to smoke marijuana before taking the field during the latter part of his career.

Speaking to Robert Griffin III on the ‘RG3 And The Ones’ podcast, Johnson was asked whether he ever played any games high and disclosed that he smoked before some games in order to help him manage the pain.

“Yes I have,” he said. “There were some games there in my career, man (when) I was just like, I don’t know how I’m gonna make it today. Let me get my mind right!”

Johnson played some games during the 2015 season- the last season of his career – all while stoned. But it doesn’t appear that the cannabis had a negative effect on him as he made 88 receptions for 1,214 yards and nine touchdowns that year.

He retired at the end of the campaign and has since been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

If only Ricky Williams were that lucky…
