NFL reporter Albert Breer reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Justin Fields continue to try to work out a new contract.

However, things are starting to get spicy.

Breer notes that Fields reportedly also wants assurances should he decide to come back.

Justin Fields reportedly will not sign with the Steelers unless they commit to him being the number one quarterback on the depth chart.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Fields “has been talking with the Steelers, but needs to understand more about the Jets situation and offer that can’t come until after noon” on Monday.

Last year, the Steelers traded for Fields after signing veteran Russell Wilson.

Wilson suffered a calf injury at the start of the training camp, so Fields became the starter, and he ran with the opportunity. Fields went 4-2 as a starter and had the team going in the right direction. However, once Wilson became healthy, he would be sent back to the bench.

Justin Fields Is Unlikely To be In Pittsburgh Due To Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are closing in on a deal for former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Should that happen, it might spell the end of Justin Fields being in Pittsburgh.

The former first-round pick will be eligible to hear offers from other teams starting on Monday after Fields did not re-sign with the Steelers prior to the start of the league’s legal tampering period.

For him to return, he reportedly wanted assurances that he would be QB1.

The team might look to bring Russell Wilson or sign Aaron Rodgrs to be the starter instead.

The Steelers and Fields are open to a reunion, but Fields wants to see his other options before making a final decision, according to ESPN.
