Viewers of The 1% Club were left baffled by the ‘impossible’ final question that some claimed they couldn’t have answered ‘in a million years’. Comedian Lee Mack returned to host the popular ITV quiz show on Saturday night. The programme begins with 100 contestants who face a series of increasingly challenging logic-based questions. The first question is one that 90% of those surveyed could answer, but by the last, only 1% can get it right.

On this occasion, only four contestants made it to the end for a chance to win £98,000. The question was: “What is the lowest number to have the same value as ten times the number of letters in its name?” All four remaining contestants gave completely different answers, highlighting the difficulty of the challenge. Have you worked it out yet?

Contestants in the studio only get 30 seconds to answer, but you can take a bit longer if you need it. Just don’t read on if you want more time to try and answer as the answer is about to be revealed below.

The answer is: 50. Fifty has five letters.

5 x 10 = 50. Despite the tricky question, one contestant, Joshua, answered correctly and walked away with the huge sum.

Many viewers at home were stumped by the question, with one writing on X: “That was a tough question… well done Joshua #The1PercentClub.”

“Wouldn’t have gotten that 1% question in a million years #The1PercentClub,” another viewer commented.

And another perplexed fan queried: “What the hell even was that 1% question? #The1PercentClub.”

One contestant on the show was branded a “diva” when they were asked what they’d do with their prize money – and answered invest in better seats for the audience/quizzers in the studio. One fan tweeted in response: “’I’d maybe pay for the studio to get some new seats’ – bloody hell, what a diva!”
