No blurred lines here; if Echo gets a second season, Alaqua Cox knows exactly where she wants to take the plot.

“If she was able to meet any of the Avengers”: Alaqua Cox Wishes to Team Up With This Street Level MCU Hero in Echo Season 2

Alaqua Cox’s character Maya Lopez, the adopted daughter of the supervillain Kingpin, made her debut in Jonathan Igla’s Hawkeye (2021). The character, also referred to as Echo, is among the few deaf comic book characters. Following that, the actress played the lead role in the spin-off series Echo (2024), which co-starred Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

It remains to be seen where Cox’s character will appear following the conclusion of the Echo finale, but Marvel Studios is obviously putting time, resources, and efforts into the new fan-favorite character. The actress, 27, recently discussed what she is looking forward to from the potential second season. Cox’s wish to join forces with Daredevil, a street-level superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is what has everyone’s attention.

Alaqua Cox’s Ambitions to Join Forces with Daredevil

Previously, Alaqua Cox spoke with Screen Rant about Echo and her hopes for Maya Lopez’s future in the Disney+ series, which was released on January 9, 2024. Upon being asked what she would like to see in a possible second season, should the show return, the actress revealed:

“[I’d like more of] Maya’s family. I wouldn’t mind if they went to New York City and all got revenge on those people that have hurt them and also used the powers of their ancestors that they have. I think that’d be cool storyline. And the Green Goblin. That would be pretty cool. I think I’d like to face the Green Goblin.”

In addition to talking about her own TV series, Cox shared which other MCU characters she would like Echo to meet. She wished Maya had the opportunity to meet the Avengers and if she could be in “Daredevil [Born Again]”, adding that she might work on such “possibilities”. She said:

“I would hope that she’s able to cross paths with other superheroes as well, for example, the Avengers. That would be a dream come true if she was able to meet any of the Avengers or even if she was in Daredevil [Born Again]. We just don’t know. I’d like to see any of those possibilities.”

Alaqua Cox Doesn’t Want to be the “Bad Guy” in Hollywood After Fame From Marvel’s Echo
For those who are unfamiliar, the character of Daredevil was portrayed by Charlie Cox in the popular Netflix series Daredevil (2015–2018) and quickly became a fan favorite. In addition, he starred in the Marvel Studios movie Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Disney+ television series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo.

The Direct had an interview with Kira Kelly, the co-cinematographer for Echo, after the series’ premiere, to inquire about the possibility of a second season.

Kelly emphasized that it would be “amazing” to see Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez return to the MCU, even though she said she was “not sure” about the show’s next move. In her words:

“I’m not sure about that. I feel like the world – you know, anything that we can see Alaqua [Cox in] would be amazing. Whether it’s another season for her or whether or not she’s in the ‘Daredevil’ show coming up or any other show. I would just love any excuse to see Alaqua perform again.”

Given Echo’s favorable review score (see Rotten Tomatoes), Marvel Studios and Disney+ ought to seriously consider producing a second season. Cox is favored to return for a second season, according to David Mack, co-creator of Echo’s character. He previously stated in an interview with ComicBook:

I hope that there is more Echo, I shouldn’t say more than that. I hope to see a Season 2. I would love to see her popping up in other TV shows and other films. I’m really grateful for what those filmmakers have put into it. And, a big shout-out to Alaqua Cox for just inhabiting this character so perfectly.”

There is undoubtedly more story to be told about Echo, both on and off her solo series, as her debut season consisted of just five episodes. It should not take long for the audience to see Maya return to the franchise, whether it be through Echo season 2 or other MCU projects.
