Dave Bautista gets candid about why Dune was easier for him than his Marvel outing as Drax the Destroyer.

Acting in a Marvel movie is not easy, for the actors pretty much are supposed to act against a green screen with imaginary characters. The fan expectations and pressure coupled with the monotonous set environment add to the troubles, and hence, many actors describe having a terrible time shooting Marvel flicks.

Dave Bautista, who starred as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers movies, described how different the process is while filming an MCU flick. Especially compared to his latest box office blockbuster, Dune, the actor revealed one crucial difference that made it easier for him to shoot the Denis Villeneuve sci-fi flick.
Dave Bautista Compares Filming Dune to Marvel Movies

It is a no-brainer that Marvel relies heavily on CGI and special effects to make its blockbuster superhero movies. Thus, actors end up spending a lot of time against green screens, pretending to be wherever their characters are supposed to be. Often pretending to shoot with imaginary beings and elements, filming Marvel movies is not a cup of tea for every actor.

When it comes to science-fiction movies, the process is mostly the same since instead of building up huge sets, production often finds using CGI an easy way out (Avatar, Jurassic World, Star Wars, etc.). Yet despite Dune being a sci-fi tale, Dave Bautista‘s experience of shooting the movies and Marvel movies could not have been more different.
In an interview with Game Spot, the actor remarked,
“I did seven films with Marvel, so my experience with them is different; every film was different. But there were a lot of times on the Marvel stuff where I had to perform it with tennis balls, a lot of green screen, a lot of imaginary stuff.”
Bautista later added that it wasn’t the same in every Marvel movie but a lot of time that is what happened. He then added, revealing how shooting Dune was a different experience,

“And with Dune, the world’s been created for us, a lot of practical sets. And so it wasn’t that I had to depend so much on my imagination. They made it very easy for me, made it very real for me with practical sets and incredible actors. And also I didn’t have to act with CGI characters. And so it was just a completely different experience.”

While his acting in both roles is top-notch as always, Bautista’s revelations offer a rare insight as to how the two franchises differ. And perhaps it was Denis Villeneuve’s different approach that made the Dune movies even more successful.
How Dave Bautista Prepared For His Dune Role
Dave Bautista in Dune: Part Two
For his Marvel role of Drax, Dave Bautista had to maintain his physicality and spend hours on the make-up chair, a process that he describes as beating him down (via GQ). Yet for most actors, putting on the make-up makes it easier for them to play the character and get into the head-space of them.

But for playing a character like Glossu
Beast Rabban, the preparation was less make-up chair and more about trying to get into the world, which was already an easy job thanks to the elaborate and extensive sets of
Dune.

However, it was really the help that the former wrestler got from the director Denis Villeneuve that helped him get his role right, as he revealed to Game Spot.
“I think once we got there in the world which was created, it just makes it easy. But I think my preparation for this role, for this character, was really through conversations with Denis. So it wasn’t like I had to physically prepare for it, or when I got onto set I had to come get my mind ready to start.”
Helping understand the core of Rabban, his motivation, his cowardness, his violence, and his insecurities eventually made it easier for Bautista to play the character as flawlessly as he did.
While Dave Bautista’s feat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can be streamed on Disney+, Dune can be streamed on Max, and Dune: Part Two can be rented on Amazon.

With the heаd of state and the future Queen both receiving trеatment for cancer, the Royal Family faces an uncertain pеriod. But the monarchy is expected to rally rоund to support those at the heart of the institution.
A rоyal source said: “The King has been keeping in tоuch with the Princess of Wales from the moment she wаs admitted to hospital in January and throughоut her current cancer treatment. He is utterly determinеd to put on a show of unity for his family and rеassure the public and wider world the monarchy is stablе, despite the current tumultuous pеriod.”
The monarch has rеduced his duties and public appearances whilе he undergoes weekly treatment for cancer, which was rеvealed after he was admitted to hospitаl in January because of an enlarged prostate. In his first public stаtement last month since his cancer diagnоsis, Charles expressed gratitude to the public for their suppоrt, saying it brought him “the greatest cоmfort and encouragement”.
Kate’s video mеssage, watched by millions of people around the wоrld, has also been signalled as a message of hopе for those battling the disease. Sitting outside on a bеnch, in front of a spring backdrop of daffodils, the princеss described her plight as “a huge shock” аnd confirmed she had, together with her William, 41, personаlly broken the news to their children – but tоld them: “I am going to be ok.”
Kate was admittеd to hospital on January 16 for major abdominаl surgery, which has been confirmed as successful. At the timе of her operation it was thought that the cоndition was non-cancerous, as no tests had confirmed the prеsence of cancer.
But post-operative tests cоnfirmed that cancer had been present. Rumours online abоut Kate intensified after William, at very short nоtice, pulled out of a memorial service for his god-father, the lаte King Constantine of Greece.
The Palace has be warned that a potential move could spark backlash from the public if it’s given the go ahead.
A royal expert has claimed that it’s unlikely that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be stripped of their titles.
Ingrid Seward, editor in chief of Majesty Magazine, told The Royal Beat that it’s unlikely Meghan, 42, and Prince Harry, 39, will be stripped of their royal titles by King Charles III, even though they quit their royal duties in 2020.

“I don’t think anything will happen to the titles because, if they lose their titles, Harry is still a prince of the blood and Meghan, instead of being the Duchess of Sussex, [would] be Princess Henry,” Seward said, according to The Mirror.
She went on to suggest that were the Palace to strip the pair of the titles it could be seen as “unkind” move by the public.
“That really would [confuse the Americans],” she added. “I think [it’s] probably best just to leave it because it looks unkind, it looks unnecessary.”
Prince Harry was born Prince Henry Charles Albert David, but goes by Harry. If Meghan lost her title as Duchess of Sussex, she would technically be called Princess Henry, since it’s royal tradition that a princess takes an official title with her husband’s name.
The same rule applies for Kate Middleton, who is technically Princess William — but is referred to as the Princess of Wales.

Seward said Harry and Meghan will likely be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex forever.
“The Queen gave them the titles, let them keep them – they’re going to be ‘H and M’ anyway,” she said.
“I think the best thing is to leave them, ignore them, and let them get on with it – which is really what the Palace and the Royal Family are doing.”
Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020, and they now live in California with their two children Archie, four, and Lilibet two.
Royal author Tom Quinn recently claimed that Charles, 75, and William, 41, “have had lengthy discussions about stripping” the couple of their royal titles.
However, he doesn’t believe the king and his heir will make the move.
“They are terrified this would backfire and make the situation worse,” Quinn told The Mirror last month. “The last thing they want is to give the renegade royals something else to complain about.”
