But seemingly, Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon faced a bit more difficulty than usual, perhaps due to his cast of superheroes.

Having a frustrating journey of directing Avengers: Age of Ultron, more than The Avengers, Joss Whedon claimed to be burnt out at the end. Thor actor Chris Hemsworth later confessed how he and his co-stars actually drove Whedon into frustration, so much so that it became extremely difficult for the filmmaker to stay calm and composed during the process.

Chris Hemsworth and His Co-stars Awakened Joss Whedon’s Fury

Speaking to MTV during an interview while promoting the 2019 movie Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth revealed how the original Avengers cast pissed off Joss Whedon on set by cracking each other up and ruining takes. Calling it one of his favorite moments, Hemsworth mentioned his attempt to film a scene for Age of Ultron with the rest of his co-stars, which eventually ended up awakening the director’s fury.

I think it was on Avengers 1 or 2 where it was the original six trying to get — where we had one line each in the scene, pretty simple thing, and we just couldn’t get it together. We just kept cracking up and laughing. And then Joss Whedon, who was directing, was just exhausted and was just getting angrier and angrier.”

Admitting how their childishness kept building up Joss Whedon’s frustration, Chris Hemsworth seemed unfazed as he mentioned enjoying the moment. Meanwhile, although Hemsworth and his co-stars derived fun out of their joyous filming experience, Whedon had an exhausting day, because of the actors’ goofiness.

The angrier he got, the funnier it got. It was like being back in high school. It was one of those moments where you’re like, nothing’s changed. No matter what age you’re at or what point of life, there’s that inherent quality to when you’re not supposed to laugh, you laugh even more.”

Eventually, due to the difficult experience on set, although Joss Whedon had hoped to create something beautiful with Avengers: Age of Ultron, it proved to be surprisingly divisive at the box office. Struggling at the box office despite its insurmountable hype, the 2015 movie ended up being the lowest-grossing Avengers film making $1.3B as per The Numbers.

The Avengers movies are available on Disney+.
