Vernon Davis and Vontae Davis are among the rare sibling duos to both find success in the National Football League.

Unfortunately for Vernon, he will never get the chance to talk to his brother again as the two-time Pro Bowl defensive back died this week at the age of 35.

His brother, ex-NFL tight end Vernon Davis, finally broke his silence when he spoke about his brother’s death in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Among the things he spoke about, he revealed Vontae Davis collapsed after stepping out of a sauna. Police have already stated that no foul play is suspected, and Vernon said Vontae Davis “never showed a history” of drug use.

“This thing definitely caught me by surprise. I just don’t know what to make of it,” Vernon told the Daily Mail. “I’m leaning on the detectives to figure it out, but, right now, we have no answers.

“They are going to run tests, and they said they’ll get back to us. It could be as long as a month, a month and a half, until we know anything.”

Vernon, who is the older brother, was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2006 and traded to the Denver Broncos in 2015 and would go on to win Super Bowl 50 with the team before signing with the Washington Redskins one year later. Vernon retired in 2019 after also earning two Pro Bowl selections.

Vontae Davis, who is five years younger, was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the 2009 draft. During his career, he would also play for the Indianapolis Colts and Buffalo Bills before retiring from the NFL in 2018. That retirement was controversial because he would do so at halftime of a game while playing for the Bills.

The 911 call Vontae Davis’s personal assistant made after his body was found in his grandmother’s house was released by authorities this week.

The assistant called the cops to state a woman had found Davis unresponsive in the home gym of the Southwest Ranches, Florida residence. The assistant stated she had been on FaceTime with the woman who found Davis prior to the 911 call, and the woman had shown the retired football pro “laying on the ground.”

In a statement to PEOPLE, police said that “preliminary information suggests that foul play is not involved,” but the investigation into his death remains active.
