CJ Snare, the lead singer of FireHouse, has died at the age of 64 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in 2020 and took a hiatus from the band in 2023 to undergo abdominal surgery. CJ did have plans to re-join FireHouse for their summer tour in 2024.

His optimism shone through in his final Instagram post on March 27, where he shared nostalgic snaps of his performances, captioning the post: “Feeling Stronger Everyday! I’ll be back on stage with FireHouse before you know it. Health is first so making a FULL recovery before my return.”

The heartbreaking announcement of his death came from his daughter Heather, who spoke to TMZ, revealing that her father succumbed to cancer, with cardiac arrest being the official cause of death.

Born in Washington, DC, CJ leaves behind a legacy as a co-founder of FireHouse in 1987, having penned most of the band’s hits. FireHouse is celebrated for anthems like ‘Don’t Treat Me Bad’, ‘Love of a Lifetime’, and ‘When I Look Into Your Eyes’, with seven tracks hitting the Billboard Hot 100 and five reaching the Top 40.

The band’s debut album, released in 1990, achieved double platinum status in the US. CJ’s talents weren’t limited to his dynamic vocals; he also played keyboards across all seven FireHouse albums.

Firehouse took to Facebook to share their heartache, announcing: “It is with great sorrow we are letting the world know we have lost our brother: CJ Snare, the rock and roll warrior, lead vocalist, and a founding member of Firehouse, CJ snare passed unexpectedly at home Friday night, April 5, 2024. He was a young 64 years old. … We are all in complete shock with CJ’s untimely passing.”

Jack Blades from Night Ranger expressed his grief on Twitter, saying: “Just heartsick with the news of our rock n roll brother CJ Snare’s passing Many wonderful memories of NR and Firehouse playing together CJ ‘s sweet soul and great smile always brightened up the day no matter what was happening Blessings CJ and sing it loud in the stars my brother.”

Devastated fans poured out their emotions under CJ’s last Instagram post. One fan wrote: “Damn…just saw the news. Can’t believe this. Thanks for all the music and memories, man. Fly high, CJ,” Another shared their tribute, saying: “R.I.P. CJ keep rocking on in Heaven.”
