Despite her best intentions when mentioning her age, Kate Garraway sparked a hint of frustration in Dionne Warwick.
The legendary singer, 83, spoke to the Good Morning Britain host and her co-star Richard Madeley this Thursday, May 2, as she spoke about her long-lasting career in the spotlight and her upcoming projects as she continues to perform at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival until May 6.
Kate and Richard were in awe during their conversation with the Walk On By singer who has inspired multiple generations – including Doja Cat who sampled the hitmaker for her own song, Paint The Town Red. But in a bid to avoid offending the star, Kate Garraway’s politeness was quickly dismissed.
“You shouldn’t mention a woman’s age but you’re in your eighties”, the presenter began before being cut off by an amused, albeit slightly frustrated, Dionne. “I’m 83. You can say I’m 83”, she interjected. Kate replied: “83 and looking fabulous”, before letting the discussion continue.

Much like Kate and Richard, ITV viewers were happy to see Dionne doing well and swarmed over to X, formerly known as Twitter: “How nice to see Dionne Warwick on GMB”, one notably said. But TV fans couldn’t help but notice the singer had seemingly lost patience with the hosts as the interview went on.
“Dionne Warwick looking like there’s a thousand things she rather be doing than speaking with Richard Madeley”, one amused viewer penned. “Completely ignored by the great Dionne Warwick”, another quipped, adding a crying laughing emoji. However, a third social media user was shocked as they commented: “Why are they having so much trouble pronouncing Dionne Warwick’s name?”

This isn’t the first time the ex-Masked Singer contestant experiences awkwardness on the set of the breakfast staple. Back in 2017, the soul legend had another tense encounter with Kate’s Good Morning Britain co-star Susanna Reid. It all began when she point blank refused to answer the presenter’s questions about her late cousin, and fellow legendary singer, Whitney Houston, who died of a heart attack in a hotel bathtub in February, 2012.
“We’re not going to discuss that, OK? That’s a bygone conclusion. We’re not discussing that, we’re here to discuss Dot Com”, Dionne firmly stated at the time. “Let’s do that.” Things only got worse as Susanna tried to explain her question with the release of a documentary centred around Whitney. But Dionne had furiously doubled down.
“I would just rather- first of all, it’s a very personal thing, and why would you guys even want to continue to hurt me? Because that does hurt.” She’d then added: “Let’s just leave it there and go on to talking about Dot Com.”
Susanna tried to ease tensions by sympathising with the singer’s decision but the harm was already for Dionne, who remained angry. “Can we leave it there?” she insisted, prompting Susanna and co-host Ben Shephard to apologise to her.
“Well, I’m sorry that that hurts and you’re absolutely right,” said Susanna, while Ben went on: “That wasn’t our intention, Dionne, so apologies for that.”

Thomas Markle is likely "very sad" to be missing out on yet another special family occasion because of his strained relationship with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, a royal expert claimed.
The former television lighting director has been effectively estranged from his youngest daughter since after her wedding to Harry in 2018.
He was due to fly to the UK to walk her down the aisle, but news of an agreement with the paparazzi paired with a heart attack days before the ceremony prevented him from attending.
Markle is not believed to have seen the Duchess of Sussex since – and he has repeatedly complained about never meeting his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
With Lilibet's birthday looming, royal expert Phil Dampier spoke of the distress Mr Markle shares with King Charles as he misses out on yet another special occasion.

Speaking to The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, Mr Dampier said: "It is amazing that she's already three but there is this underlying sadness of course because of the rift that the King is not seeing his grandchildren.
“I think he's only met Lilibet possibly once and Archie only a couple of times and they are seventh and eighth in line to the throne, growing up in California on the West Coast of America with American accents and they just don't see them.”
During her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, the Duchess claimed her father had lied to her about speaking to the British press in what she dubbed a "betrayal" she couldn't "reconcile."
Mr Dampier added: "So that is the underlying sadness and whether they're going to one day heal this rift, we don't know, but at the moment I don't think there's much prospect.”
The royal expert also argued Harry and Meghan face the prospect of intense questioning from Lilibet and Archie when they are older on the lack of contact with both families.
He said: "When they get a bit older, are they going to start asking questions ‘How have we got to this situation’, ‘How is it I don't see my grandparents’, ‘How is it I don't have anything to do with the Royal Family?’
“When they get old, that's probably when the problem is going to start and it's going to be difficult for them.”
Lilibet, who will be turning three on June 4, is believed to have met the King in person only once when her parents brought her and Archie to the UK to celebrate the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
While Archie was born in the UK and met his grandfather on multiple occasions, he was barely six months old when he moved to North America with his parents.

With the heаd of state and the future Queen both receiving trеatment for cancer, the Royal Family faces an uncertain pеriod. But the monarchy is expected to rally rоund to support those at the heart of the institution.
A rоyal source said: “The King has been keeping in tоuch with the Princess of Wales from the moment she wаs admitted to hospital in January and throughоut her current cancer treatment. He is utterly determinеd to put on a show of unity for his family and rеassure the public and wider world the monarchy is stablе, despite the current tumultuous pеriod.”
The monarch has rеduced his duties and public appearances whilе he undergoes weekly treatment for cancer, which was rеvealed after he was admitted to hospitаl in January because of an enlarged prostate. In his first public stаtement last month since his cancer diagnоsis, Charles expressed gratitude to the public for their suppоrt, saying it brought him “the greatest cоmfort and encouragement”.
Kate’s video mеssage, watched by millions of people around the wоrld, has also been signalled as a message of hopе for those battling the disease. Sitting outside on a bеnch, in front of a spring backdrop of daffodils, the princеss described her plight as “a huge shock” аnd confirmed she had, together with her William, 41, personаlly broken the news to their children – but tоld them: “I am going to be ok.”
Kate was admittеd to hospital on January 16 for major abdominаl surgery, which has been confirmed as successful. At the timе of her operation it was thought that the cоndition was non-cancerous, as no tests had confirmed the prеsence of cancer.
But post-operative tests cоnfirmed that cancer had been present. Rumours online abоut Kate intensified after William, at very short nоtice, pulled out of a memorial service for his god-father, the lаte King Constantine of Greece.
