Spoiler alert for Coronation Street fans: The identity of the person who adopts Dee-Dee Bailey’s baby has finally been revealed, and it’s not who many viewers might have expected.
Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) gave birth to a baby girl, Laila, earlier this week, and initially, she planned to give her child to her brother James (Jason Callender). However, things took a devastating turn when Dee-Dee’s concerns were dismissed by hospital staff. After giving birth, she collapsed and was rushed into surgery, where it was discovered that she had suffered a life-threatening hemorrhage. In order to save her life, the doctors performed an emergency hysterectomy, leaving Dee-Dee unable to have children in the future.
To add to the emotional turmoil, Dee-Dee’s family faced further stress when James’ partner, Danny, was involved in a severe car crash in America and had to be put into an induced coma. James quickly left for the States to be with Danny, leaving Dee-Dee’s father, Ed (Trevor Michael Georges), to look after Laila. Meanwhile, Dee-Dee was struggling with the idea of keeping Laila, especially since her original plan was to give the baby to James once he returned.
In a particularly poignant moment, Dee-Dee confided in her friends Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) about her decision to lodge a formal complaint against the hospital. She suspected that racial bias may have contributed to her poor treatment. With James now seemingly out of the picture as a potential adoptive parent due to his absence, viewers began speculating about who might take in little Laila.
During an emotional scene in which Alya was holding Laila while talking with Sarah, the two women shared a seemingly innocuous exchange. Sarah commented, “Very natural at that,” as Alya gently placed the baby in her cot. Alya’s reply, “Mmm, funny,” was followed by Sarah’s earnest response, “I mean it.” Many fans on a Coronation Street Facebook page took this as a subtle hint that Alya might be the one to adopt the baby.
The fan theories quickly gained traction, with numerous viewers voicing their suspicions that Alya could be the one Dee-Dee chooses to raise Laila. One fan even wrote, “Did anyone else notice Sarah telling Alya she’s a natural when she was holding Dee-Dee’s baby? Could she adopt the baby?” Others agreed, with one person saying, “I thought the same when it happened!” A third fan expressed their enthusiasm, saying, “Yup, I’d love that for Alya.”
While the full details of the adoption story remain to be seen, it seems that Alya is a strong contender to become Laila’s new mother, offering a hopeful future for the little one amidst Dee-Dee’s heartbreaking journey. Fans are eagerly awaiting the confirmation of this plot twist as the storyline continues to unfold.
