A massive trade proposal idea has the Los Angeles Chargers shocking the world by dealing superstar quarterback Justin Herbert to a QB-needy AFC team.
Now, the Chargers haven’t at all indicated that they’re looking to trade Justin Herbert. And the fifth-year signal-caller has never hinted at being unhappy with the Bolts franchise, having just signed a five-year contract worth $262.5 million last summer.
But the Bolts have already parted ways with three offensive star players in Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. If the new regime of Jim Harbaugh and GM Joe Hortiz decide to rebuild the entire roster from scratch, then of course Herbert could be available for the right price.
Jess Root of Cards Wire recently shared a brand new 2024 first-round NFL mock draft. Root projected an astronomical trade that has the Chargers trading Justin Herbert to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the No. 11 pick plus a 2025 first-rounder.
With the No. 5 pick, Root projects the Chargers to take Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy. He then has them shoring up the offensive line by using the No. 11 pick via Minnesota on Oregon State offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga:
“The Chargers trade Herbert to the Vikings for the 11th pick and a first-round pick in 2025 (allowing them to keep the 23rd pick). Then they select McCarthy, reuniting him with Harbaugh.”
Harbaugh and McCarthy led the Wolverines to a national championship in their final year together with Michigan. So if the Chargers got an offer for Herbert that they couldn’t refuse, of course it would make sense to bring in McCarthy as the new franchise QB.
Justin Herbert Looks To Rebound In 2024
The Chargers had a tough 2024 season that was marred by injuries and underperforming players.
Herbert himself missed the club’s final four games after breaking the right index finger in his throwing hand. Los Angeles went 0-4 in games without Herbert, as they limped to a disappointing 5-12 record.
With a brand new coach and GM in the fold, the pieces are there for Herbert’s Chargers to enjoy a nice bounce-back season.
