The Seattle Seahawks have made a major quarterback decision that should leave Geno Smith feeling very grateful.

Smith, who revived his career in Seattle, winning the Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022 and appearing in two Pro Bowls since then, will remain on the team’s roster throughout this week, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

That will allow him to collect the $12.7 million from his contract set to become fully guaranteed this Friday. Schefter reports that the QB was informed of the decision on Thursday.

Smith signed a three-year deal worth $75 million last March, with the agreement guaranteeing him a base salary of $12.7 million as long as he remained on the roster through to February 16.

While he is now assured said sum, it doesn’t necessarily mean he will be on the Seahawks’ roster next season as he could be traded before March 18.

The player also has a $9.6 million roster bonus set to come to him on March 18, plus a $200,000 workout bonus. He will make $22.5 million in 2024, which ranks him 18th among quarterbacks in the NFL, per Spotrac.com.

Smith fired Seattle to the playoffs in 2022 but they missed out this season. He ended the campaign with 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
