The New England Patriots have released another former Super Bowl champion from their roster as the giant roster overhaul commences.

Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Patriots have released veteran defensive lineman Lawrence Guy from their roster. The soon-to-be 34-year-old will enter free agency.

 

Guy’s release is one of several notable roster moves coming in Foxborough. The Patriots parted ways with head coach Bill Belichick last month and are seemingly prepared to begin a full-scale rebuild with new HC Jerod Mayo.

Guy played for the Patriots from 2017 to 2023, winning a Super Bowl 53 ring with them in the 2018 season. Guy started 103 games over his seven years with the Patriots, tallying 10.5 sacks, one interception and three pass breakups.

The Arizona State product was a seventh-round draft choice of the Green Bay Packers in 2011, though he never wound up playing a game for them. Guy played for the Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens before joining New England in 2017.

In year one of the post-Belichick era, the Patriots are also expected to move on from quarterback Mac Jones and select a new QB with the No. 3 pick in April’s 2024 NFL Draft.
