The Miami Dolphins have released another star player as the overhaul on defense continues.

On Friday, the Dolphins announced that they have released veteran defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. The team is also planning to release star cornerback Xavien Howard in a post-June 1 move that will clear up $18.5 million in cap space.

The 30-year-old Ogbah joined Miami in 2020 after winning a Super Bowl 54 ring with Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs. Ogbah posted back-to-back seasons with nine sacks, but injuries have limited him to 24 games over the last two years. He had just 6.5 sacks in that period.

The Oklahoma State product spent his first three seasons with the Cleveland Browns before joining Kansas City in 2019. For his career, Ogbah has 42.5 sacks, 39 pass defenses and eight forced fumbles.

Miami finished 11-6 in 2023 and locked down their second straight postseason appearance, only to fall to Ogbah’s old team in the Chiefs in the Wild Card Round.

Head coach Mike McDaniel parted ways with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio after the loss and named Anthony Weaver his replacement. Fangio went on to accept the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator position.
