Carson Wentz, a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback, is joining the defending Super Bowl champions.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed Carson Wentz to a one-year contract. Wentz will presumably slot in as the new No. 2 QB behind Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs have not re-signed Blaine Gabbert, who spent last season as Mahomes’ backup following the 2023 retirement of Chad Henne. Chris Oladokun and Ian Book are the other quarterbacks on the Chiefs’ roster, though one of them could be released soon with Wentz on his way.
Kansas City will mark Carson Wentz’s fifth NFL team in as many years. Following a five-year stint with the Philadelphia Eagles, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in the 2021 offseason after Jalen Hurts took over as the starting QB.
Wild stat: Former #Eagles QB Carson Wentz threw for 4000+ yards in 2019 despite none of his receivers having over 500 yards… this was the first and still the only time in #NFL history it’s ever happened.

Wentz was traded to the Washington Commanders in 2022 following a disappointing one-year run in Indianapolis. However, he was released by the NFC East club after yet another frustrating individual campaign.
Carson Wentz signed with the Los Angeles Rams late in the 2023 season to back up Matthew Stafford. Wentz saw two games of action, starting the club’s meaningless Week 18 contest against the San Francisco 49ers after LA clinched a playoff spot.

Carson Wentz’s Career Stats
Unfortunately, Wentz has not been the same since he suffered a season-ending ACL tear late in his 2017 sophomore season. Before his injury, Wentz was among the top candidates for league MVP honors.
Nick Foles, of course, took over for the injured Wentz and led Philadelphia to the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship that season. As an Eagle, Wentz would only play a full season one more time (in 2019).
For his career, Wentz is 47-45-1 as a starter with a 62.7 completion percentage for 22,292 passing yards, 153 touchdowns and 67 interceptions to go along with 1,418 rushing yards and 11 rushing scores.
