The New York Jets are going to look completely different before the 2024 season.
New York Jets offensive tackle Duane Brown was brought in to replace Becton back in 2022 but his most memorable moment was him being the guy who gave up the sack that ended Aaron Rodgers’ season in 2023. He won’t have that chance again as his contract with the team was voided today.
He was far from the only one.
Contracts were also voided for defensive back Jordan Whitehead, defensive lineman Carl Lawson, and Quinton Jefferson, acccording to ESPN. All players are free to sign elsewhere starting on Saturday.
Brown played at a Pro Bowl level during long stops in Seattle and Houston, but those days are long gone as he will turn 39 before next season starts. He’s been injured during his two seasons in New York and has started all of 15 games in that span.
In that Monday night game against the Buffalo Bills in week one, Jets safety Jordan Whitehead intercepted Josh Allen three times. He ended the season with four interceptions and 97 total tackles. In December, he said he would like to return to the Jets if they are interested, but their actions show they are ready to move on.
Carl Lawson played just 23 games in his three years with the Jets. He was publcly unhappy about his role with the team, so now he can find playing time elsewhere. Lawson started every game and played 663 defensive snaps for the Jets in the 2022 season. In 2023, he only played in four games and racked up just five total tackles.
The Jets signed Quinton Jefferson to a one-year deal last year and he made an immediate impact with two sacks in the opening-week win over the Bills. He was placed on injured reserve in December.
Jefferson started the first 14 games of the year before going onto injured reserve and ended the season with a career-high six sacks.
