For many parents, watching their children grow up and leave home is a bittersweet milestone, and Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid is no exception.

The 51-year-old journalist recently shared her heartfelt emotions about her youngest son preparing to leave for university,
admitting she has been feeling “really sad” and often “cries her heart out” over the impending change.
Cherishing Time with Her Children

Susanna, who is a devoted mother to three sons—Sam, 20, Finn, 18, and Jack, 17—has been making the most of her time with them before they all embark on their own paths.

She shares her children with ex-partner Dominic Cotton and has been open about how important it is for her to be present during their final years at home.

In an interview with The Mirror, Susanna expressed just how emotional this transition has been for her:
“You cry your heart out because all that regular time with your children has gone. It’s really sad. Now they’re all en route to leaving home, I want to enjoy time with them as much as I possibly can.”
Recognizing how fleeting these moments are, she made the conscious decision last year to scale back on additional work commitments outside of Good Morning Britain.
“GMB is my biggest commitment, and I’m not taking on anything extra,” she stated, emphasizing her priority to be there for her children as they transition into adulthood.

A Lifestyle Shift: Prioritizing Family Over Work and Alcohol
As part of her commitment to being more present for her children, Susanna also revealed that she gave up alcohol four years ago. She admitted that she no longer enjoyed drinking and that the dreaded “hangxiety” played a big role in her decision to stop.
“I stopped enjoying it. I prefer life alcohol-free—it’s tiring, and the hangxiety got to me. I don’t feel like I can plough on after pints of Guinness the night before. Spending time with the kids is my release.”
Since making the switch, Susanna has focused on enjoying quality time with her children, something that has become increasingly precious as they prepare to leave home.

Navigating Parenthood and Personal Well-being
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Susanna—like many others—found comfort in food, admitting she had put on a stone. However, she later managed to lose 1.5 stone and credited fitness expert Joe Wicks for helping people stay active during that challenging period.
While physical health is important to her, she has always emphasized the emotional side of parenting. The idea of an “empty nest” has been difficult for her to come to terms with, and she has not shied away from expressing just how much she will miss having her children around every day.

Giving Back: Supporting Those Who Feel Alone
Despite facing personal challenges, Susanna remains dedicated to supporting others. Recently, she teamed up with her Good Morning Britain co-hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard to launch the show’s award-winning 1 Million Minutes campaign.
The initiative encourages viewers to donate their time to help those who feel lonely, particularly during the festive season. Speaking about the importance of this cause, Susanna said:
“I’m glad I can be company for people who are alone at Christmas.”

Her involvement in the campaign highlights how much she values connection and emotional support—not just within her own family but for others who may be struggling.
A Career of Memorable Moments
Although family is at the forefront of Susanna’s mind, she continues to enjoy her career, which has led to many exciting encounters. Just last month, she appeared in a glamorous photoshoot for woman&home, where she showcased a stunning transformation.
In addition to her TV career, she has had the opportunity to interview some of the world’s biggest celebrities. Reflecting on her time as a journalist, she admitted that one of her favorite interviewees was none other than football legend David Beckham. While their exchange was flirty at times, Susanna insisted that it was strictly professional.

Looking Ahead: Embracing Change
As Susanna prepares for life with an empty nest, she remains committed to making every moment count with her children. While the thought of them leaving is heartbreaking, she acknowledges that this is a natural part of parenthood and is embracing the transition with love and support.
With her unwavering dedication to both her family and her career, Susanna Reid continues to be an inspiration to parents everywhere who are navigating the emotional journey of watching their children grow up and move on to new adventures.
