Las Vegas has always been a city where fortunes change faster than a roulette wheel. But even by Sin City standards, the Raiders’ offseason feels like a high-stakes blockbuster sequel—think Ocean’s 14, but with more playbooks and fewer poker chips. Tom Brady’s fingerprints are all over this reboot, blending Hollywood glitz with gridiron grit. While the drama unfolds, one thing’s clear: The Silver and Black aren’t just rebuilding—they’re rewiring.
The Raiders and assistant GM Champ Kelly have officially parted ways, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This marks the third front-office departure this month under new GM John Spytek. Kelly, who served as interim GM in 2023, had hoped to land a permanent GM role but found himself sidelined as Vegas opted for Spytek’s vision. It seems Champ wants to run his own show. But Kelly’s exit isn’t shocking.
Hired in 2022, he survived Dave Ziegler’s mid-season firing but lost the GM race to Tom Telesco last year. When Telesco and coach Antonio Pierce were axed after a dismal 4-13 season, Kelly’s fate was sealed. Spytek, alongside new coach Pete Carroll, is cleaning house—and Kelly’s résumé (Broncos, Bears, Raiders) now heads to the open market. Besides, Brady’s role as minority owner looms large here.
His partnership with Carroll—yes, that Carroll, the guy who drafted him in New England—adds spice to this saga. Together, they’re betting on Spytek, a 44-year-old exec with a rep for finding hidden talent. But Spytek’s first move?
Trimming the old guard. Senior scout Dujuan Daniels and personnel director JoJo Wooden were shown the door earlier this month. Kelly’s exit completes the trifecta. However, the Raiders could’ve netted two third-round picks if Kelly landed Jacksonville’s GM job.
Instead, he’s back to square one. Meanwhile, Vegas faces a pivotal draft with Spytek calling the shots. Will Tom Brady’s Midas touch extend to the front office? Cut to Maxx Crosby, the Raiders’ star edge rusher, who’s suddenly popping up in 49ers trade rumors.
Crosby’s Bay area buzz: a trade brewing in Brady’s Vegas?
After a weekend in the Bay Area, Crosby gushed on social media: “Spent 48 Hours In The Bay This Weekend. Easily One Of The Best Experiences I’ve Had So Far As A Professional. The Amount Of Love Yall Showed For This 4th Rounder From Eastern Michigan Was Humbling.” Cue the speculation.
San Francisco, fresh off a playoff miss and a measly 37 sacks, needs firepower opposite Nick Bosa. TWSN’s Marissa Myers argues Crosby’s ‘generational duo’ potential with Bosa is worth a king’s ransom. “If San Francisco wants to make a splash move at edge to pair opposite Bosa, Crosby is the way for them to go,” she said. But hold up.
Crosby’s loyalty to Vegas runs deep. He’s called this offseason “the most optimistic I’ve been” since entering the league, thanks to Carroll’s hiring. Still, at 27, his clock is ticking. The Raiders, years from contention, might cash in now. A trade could net multiple first-round picks—and Crosby’s cryptic “We’ll [be] back again soon” Bay Area post?

Let’s just say it’s fuel for the rumor mill. For the Raiders, this offseason is a masterclass in chaos theory. Kelly’s departure underscores Spytek’s ruthless rebuild, while Crosby’s limbo mirrors the team’s identity crisis. Tom Brady and Carroll aim to blend old-school grit with new-school swagger, but the path is murkier than a Vegas hangover. As for Crosby?
Whether he stays or goes, his legacy is secure. But in the NFL, as in life, adaptation is survival. “The only constant in life is change,” Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said. For Raiders Nation, that truth hits harder than a blindside blitz.
