Brenda Blethyn has opened up about her return to ITV series Vera after admitting that she “misses it” and is open to returning to the role in a one-off special.
Brenda Blethyn has candidly expressed her feelings about leaving the role of Vera Stanhope, revealing she “misses it” after the final scenes aired in January.
The beloved actress hinted at a possible return, suggesting to Daily Star’s HotTV, “A special would be nice. It’s definitely one of my favourite roles I’ve done. I love the character.”
She shared her nostalgia for the filming routine, saying, “When we get to March, I’d normally be packing my bag to go up north to film, but I will be sad. I will miss it. I had a great time doing it.”
The star previously discussed her reasons for exiting the ITV series, citing a longing for family time: “It was a lovely summer back in 2023, and I came to realise I hadn’t had a summer with my husband for 14 years,” she revealed.
Despite her affection for the Vera family, her own family and her dog Jack took precedence.

While there’s no confirmation of a new series or special, Brenda isn’t ruling out the possibility, even jokingly wishing for a change of scenery for her character.
She said: “I wish there could have been an episode where I stayed at home in Kent: ‘Vera Goes South.’” However, she acknowledges the show’s deep roots in Northumberland and the North East.
Fans of the crime drama Vera are hoping for a spin-off and are posting their fervent requests on social media, reports Chronicle Live.
One passionate viewer suggested on a platform: “I wonder if maybe there could be a spin-off on the team and maybe a guest Vera appearance.”

Another hopeful fan expressed: “I was hoping she would take the promotion. They could do a spin-off then she could appear once in a while.”
“I think that would be a great idea,” responded one supporter, as another chimed in with approval: “Sounds like a good idea.”
An additional comment came from someone who posted: “Does anyone else think it would be great if they made a spin-off series looking at the young Vera when she was near the start of her career?”
